Flame lives here with us, having been the early pick of several experienced dog people coming to see the litter as babies. I wasn't sure, wondering if Orange or Yellow might be who I wanted. When she was 7 weeks old though, she picked up a stick and trotted around the yard, head held high, sure that she was the coolest dog on earth - just as her grandma Raja had done so many years ago on the Oregon beach as a 10 week old. I knew who my girl was, and she has been reminding me of Raja ever since!

Flame didn't have much of a late puppyhood, having sustained a slip & fall on ice at 8 months. She injured a groin muscle, but we didn't know until months later that she had also damaged the growth plate of her hip. By the time she was 13 months old, she had had a large portion of her femoral head destroyed by avascular necrosis, and had a right total hip replacement at UW vet school. I am forever grateful for the work Dr. Paul Manley did to restore her to full function, allowing us to do whatever we want to do together. And we're doing a lot!

Herding started at 6 weeks on ducks, with the AKC HSAds titles coming in fall of 2006, her HI titles in Nov '07 & May '08, and her HX titles in '09. Her TD came very easily as well, and advanced tracking work has shown her natural ability. She earned her TDX on a gorgeous 15 minute track in May 2009 and is now on to VST work.

Agility has been such fun to train given Flame's speed & enthusiasm. After some learning by both dog and handler, she has hit her stride and is qualifying at an unprecedented pace now in fall/winter of '09/'10.

Flame is the dam of our "Fire" litter, born March 13 2009. She bounced back to earn her TDX, and HXA titles on ducks and sheep, over the following spring and summer. She's been a joy to train and trial in all venues - a happy, driven worker who takes on all challenges and asks for more to do. And when she's done, she's a major-league cuddle-pup!
